Should Caroline Kennedy Get NY Senate Seat?

Published by nh2008 at 7:57 pm under Current Events Edit This

Caroline Kennedy wants to get Hillary Clinton’s New York senate seat. Now, she is from a very political family. I mean the Kennedy last name is the epitome of political families. Governor David Paterson will appoint the new New York senator. Then, the senator who is appointed will need to run for re-election in 2010. Now, Caroline Kennedy is a very famous woman. Her father was President John F. Kennedy, who was assassinated. Her uncle is very famous Senator Edward Kennedy of Massachusetts. Now, she has the family connections but does she have the political experience? No, she does not have a lot of political experience. She did campaign for President Elect Barack Obama. She also helped to vet the vice presidential candidates for him. The question here is whether or not your last name and family connections are the basis for which you get appointed to a senate seat. I think she would make a great senator but I think she should have to earn her seat by running in 2010 against someone else. What do you think?

Governor Patterson should take a cue from Delaware and appoint a stand-in. Then, in two years, if Caroline Kennedy wants to jump into the mix, she can run.

She doesn’t have a lot of up-front experience but she’s been a behind the curtains type character for a while in politics. While I’m not convinced she should get this seat until I do more research on her and whatnot, I certainly think she has a promising career in politics if she chooses to go that way.
